Bellows Falls Opera House

The Bellows Falls Opera House is a movie theater and live event space located within the Rockingham Town Hall in downtown Bellows Falls. Constructed in 1926 in the Classical Revival Style, the building serves as the cultural and civic heart of the community. The theater contains a total of 553 fixed seats (372 on the main floor and 181 in the balcony).  Maximum number of permitted occupants is 425 on the main floor and 185 in the balcony for a total maximum occupancy of 610, performers and staff included. The Bellows Falls Opera House and the Lower Theater, in the basement, underwent a major renovation in 2004-06. As well as showing first-run and classic films, the Opera House may be rented for live musical and theatrical performances, lectures, meetings, and conferences. Rockingham Entertainment Development (RED) is a partner with the Opera House, helping to utilize this amazing resource to become a major economic driver for the Town.

Check out BFOH and RED interview on Fact TV from October 2020 for more details.

It takes a Village! Supporters of the Flat Iron Cooperative

Located at 51 The Square, this building became known as the Flat Iron Building because of it’s resemblance to similarly shaped buildings in New York City. The strange shape, narrow in the front and wide at the rear of the building reminded people of antique flat irons.

The rear of the building was painted in 2000 by the Rockingham Arts Museum Project and depicts the Downtown Square around 1899-1900. The mural is easily seen driving North through the square or from the stairs between Jim’s Arcade and Everyday Creative. The mural was recently touched up by Rotary Club Member David Stern of Main Street Arts.
