Canal Street Art Gallery

Canal Street Art Gallery

Keeping 3rd Fridays in Bellows Falls alive with Meet the Artists nights throughout COVID, Canal Street Art Gallery offers LIVE Meet the Artist nights. The Vision for Canal Street Art Gallery is to provide a space for our community to exhibit, appreciate, create, sell, and buy art. Representing contemporary artists in all mediums and styles, they offer an open space where all creative voices may be heard. Canal Street Art Gallery hopes to honor and be a part of the journey creative peoples have been taking in this place for thousands of years, and to join in the modern efforts to create a Free Art Community here in Rockingham.

The Canal Street Art Gallery was founded in March of 2017 as an Ad Hoc Art Gallery by three artists, who saw a need for a centralized and active location for creating and sharing art in the Town of Rockingham, Vermont. Rockingham includes the Villages of Bellows Falls, Saxtons River, Cambridgeport, and Bartonsville.

The Canal Street Art Gallery is located in the Bellows Falls Downtown Historic District, on the Mary Exner Block, which was restored in 2000. The Block offers 10 artist Iive/work spaces and 6 retail spaces, and is home to RAMP (Rockingham Arts & Museum Project) and Project Space 9, RAMP’s non-profit exhibition space.

Flat Iron

Located at 51 The Square, this building became known as the Flat Iron Building because of it’s resemblance to similarly shaped buildings in New York City. The strange shape, narrow in the front and wide at the rear of the building reminded people of antique flat irons.

The rear of the building was painted in 2000 by the Rockingham Arts Museum Project and depicts the Downtown Square around 1899-1900. The mural is easily seen driving North through the square or from the stairs between Jim’s Arcade and Everyday Creative. The mural was recently touched up by Rotary Club Member David Stern of Main Street Arts.

Sherwin Art Glass

OPEN STUDIO WEEKEND! May 29, 30 More news on Facebook

On August 28, 2005, Sherwin Art Glass was officially recognized by the State of Vermont as a business, complete with a scenic location overlooking the Connecticut River in Bellows Falls, Vermont.

Chris Sherwin: Glass has been an integral part of my life for more than 27 years, and I’ve been a Vermont glassblower for 15 years. My studio runs with environmental concerns in mind; my furnace and all equipment (except my torch) runs off the hydro-power generated by the dam here in Bellows Falls.  It feels good to be “green glassblowing” in the Green Mountain State, working in a medium that generally uses a lot of fossil fuels!  Reduce – Reuse – Recycle!

When not blowing glass, I enjoy many outdoor sports and activities (especially disc golf, kayaking/fishing, hiking & tennis), playing guitar, Brewing Beer–7Balls Brewing–now onsite at the 33 Bridge Street Studio/Gallery (!) , and spending quality time with my family and friends…. It’s a Good Life! :^)  Peace, Chris

Tsuga Studios

Glass Designs by Nicholas Kekic located at 33 Bridge Street, Bellows Falls. Read the history behind the name. Visit tsugastudios to see the entire collection and learn more about Nicholas Kekic.

After a fire in 2017, Nick moved his glass operations to Bellows Falls, Vermont where he found a site to melt and cool his glass using renewable hydro electric power from the Connecticut river. He invested in an electric glass furnace, moved equipment and began building a new studio in an old paper mill powered by the hydro plant sited on the first major canal in America. Now Nick uses the renewable energy from the Connecticut River to melt and cool his glasses, shrinking the carbon footprint and energy costs from his operation while continuing to make refined beautiful art glass from raw earth materials.
