The Village of Bellows Falls was first incorporated as a separate village in 1909, and is one of two Villages within the Town of Rockingham.
With the advent of the Bellows Falls Canal for transportation 1802, paper mill operations and the railroad in 1849, the city center developed into what is now called the Square, the Island and Under the Hill along the Connecticut River.
