Vermont’s downtowns are designed to be vibrant, walkable, and historic centers for communities. The Vermont Downtown Program, a Main Street America program, provides financial incentives, training, and technical assistance to help communities revitalize their downtown areas. This includes efforts to preserve historic character, improve housing, design walkable spaces, and encourage economic development.

The Bellows Falls Downtown Development Alliance (BFDDA) is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated Executive Director to lead efforts to promote and support economic revitalization in Bellows Falls’ designated downtown. As a key community liaison, the Executive Director will foster collaboration between businesses, nonprofits, local government, and community stakeholders to ensure a vibrant, thriving downtown district.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Community Engagement: Maintain strong relationships with businesses, nonprofits, and municipal partners.
  • Operations & Finance: Manage website (Squarespace), bookkeeping (QuickBooks), pay bills, file quarterly taxes, and balance budgets.
  • Collaboration & Events:
    • Support the Bellows Falls Farmers Market and promotional campaigns.
    • Partner with the Chamber of Commerce and participate in events like Flannel Fest and Old Home Days.
    • Organize community events such as Shop Local, Haunted House, the BF Book Crawl, Running of the Hetty’s and Parade of Lights.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to committees and Board aligned with the Main Street America 4-point approach (Promotion, Design, Economic Vitality, Organization).
  • Marketing & Communications: Manage social media (Instagram, Facebook), attend regional/state/national conferences, and represent BFDDA publicly.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Self-starter with strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Comfortable working independently and flexibly, including occasional evenings/weekends.
  • Proficient in social media, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace.
  • Enthusiastic and eager to learn.
  • (Bonus) Knowledge of community, business, or economic development.

Supervision:

Reports to the BFDDA Board of Directors.
