Flat Iron Exchange

The Flat Iron Exchange is a coffeehouse in downtown Bellows Falls. Located at 51 the Square, it is a creative hub for the community. Open 7 days a week, Flat Iron will serve coffee, espresso drinks, hot chocolate and teas. Baked goods will be delivered fresh from local home bakers: cookies, brownies, coffee cakes, savory breads, and special treats.

The coffeehouse will be casual with an eclectic feeling; comfort and community will resonate within the walls. Local emerging and established artists will showcase their work and add to the atmosphere. Local musical talent will have the opportunity to showcase their abilities on Flat Iron’s open stage. As a place to gather, the community will find conversations and events at Flat Iron: open mic, poetry slams, comedy, art opening and game nights. As an ecofriendly environment, sustainable, natural and organic products will be served and coffee tasting and education will be available.

In support of the community, products such as Suspended Coffee (pay ahead for someone less fortunate) and Disloyalty Cards (customer appreciation cards that will benefit multiple establishments) will be offered, along with tips for non-profits and specials integrated with local events. Flat Iron Exchange reflects the community, giving visitors a taste of our area.

Sustainable Valley Group

Mission: To help deliver a sustainable local economy through education, job expansion and sustainable business development.

Sustainable Valley Group began when a group of Springfield Vermont residents got together in July 2003 with the goal to help their community generate a financially and environmentally sustainable economy. They began focusing on education by sponsoring many public events on sustainable enterprises and activities. These events were well attended generating discussions on solar energy and other sustainable products. After years of making presentations the group was eager to take their ideas to the next level and see the creation of sustainable industries in their community. This is where Green Island Project came in. Green Island has the infrastructure in place to welcome new, innovative businesses along with being located at a transportation hub. SVG took on the Green Island Project in Bellows Falls Vermont during 2011 to bring into practice the ideas set out back in 2003. It is an exciting time at Sustainable Valley Group as we move forward leasing out space, creating jobs and opportunities in the sustainability sector for local residents.
